Learning, Serving, and Growing with Ceres Community Project

One of the things we love most at Santa Rosa Women for Good is the opportunity to go beyond writing grant checks. While providing financial support to local nonprofits is at the heart of our mission, getting to experience their work firsthand is what truly brings that impact to life.

Last Friday, a group of our members had the privilege of spending the morning volunteering with Ceres Community Project, one of our past grant recipients. It was an inspiring day filled with learning, connection, and plenty of chopping, stirring, and preparing nutritious meals for neighbors in our community.

Last year, Santa Rosa Women for Good was proud to award Ceres a special grant in partnership with Newman’s Own Foundation to help advance their incredible mission. Ceres prepares medically tailored meals for people facing serious illnesses, delivering nourishing food made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Their work extends far beyond providing meals though; they offer comfort, improve health outcomes, reduce isolation, and create meaningful opportunities for volunteers of all ages to serve their community.

Since receiving our grant, we've loved learning more about their organization and watching as their impact continues to grow. Visiting their beautiful new facility gave us an even deeper appreciation for everything that happens behind the scenes to make this work possible.

One of the highlights of the day was touring the kitchen and learning more about Ceres' programs from their staff. Seeing the thoughtful systems, planning, and care that go into every meal made it clear just how much coordination and dedication it takes to serve hundreds of community members each week.

But perhaps even more meaningful were the conversations we had while working alongside Ceres' long-time volunteers. Many of them have been returning week after week, month after month, to prepare meals for people they'll never meet. Their generosity, commitment, and passion for the mission were truly inspiring. Hearing their stories reminded us that community impact isn't built through one big moment, it's created through countless acts of service, repeated consistently over time.

We often talk about "growing the good," and this volunteer day was a perfect example of what that means. By supporting organizations financially, volunteering our time, and building relationships with the people doing this work every day, we're able to better understand the challenges our nonprofit partners face and celebrate the incredible impact they're making throughout Sonoma County.

Experiences like these remind us that philanthropy is about so much more than giving money, it's about showing up, learning, building connections, and strengthening the community together.

Thank you to the entire Ceres Community Project team for welcoming us so warmly, sharing your mission, and giving us the opportunity to be part of your work for the day. We left inspired by your staff, your volunteers, and the care that goes into every single meal you prepare.

We can't wait to volunteer with Ceres Community Project again!
